Bronco Stadium (also known as "The Blue") is an outdoor athletic
stadium on the campus of
Boise State University in
Boise, Idaho. Primarily used for
football, it is the home field of the
BSU Broncos of the
Western Athletic Conference. Bronco Stadium is widely known for its blue playing surface, rather than the traditional green surface of most other football fields. Since 1997, the
Humanitarian Bowl (called the "MPC Computers Bowl" from 2004-06) has been held at the stadium. It holds the distinction of being the longest-running outdoor bowl game in a cold-weather venue.
NEW TO BRONCO STADIUM
Boise State University's Stueckle Sky Center was opened in August of 2008. One of the premier entertainment and sporting venues in the West, the center overlooks the world famous Blue Turf of Bronco Stadium. Named for university benefactors Duane and Lori Stueckle, the four level facility includes loge boxes, club seating, sky suites and game/media operations for Boise State home football games. Additionally, five individual banquet style or meeting room spaces are located throughout the 131,000 square foot facility. Each room brings a unique style and perspective, giving facility users great rental options.

SportsBoise State Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier talked for the first time in a long while as to what the future of Bronco Stadium Thursday, March 5. Bleymaier was optimistic to the possibility that even though the budget is tight in the Athletic Department, he and many others think this is the time to take advantage of the economy and seriously consider renovating Bronco Stadium. "It would be a great time to enclose the south end zone of the stadium or build corners onto the north end of the stadium," Bleymaier said. "It would be great to do that and we're going to talk about that. We're going to have to figure out a way to come up with the money because if we can come up with the money there is not a better time to build than right now."The renovation would be costly, but due to the lack of work for many construction companies because of the struggling economy, Boise State would be able to renovate Bronco Stadium for cheaper than they ever could have before. What would this renovation entail? The possibility of finishing the enclosure on the south side of the stadium seems like the most reasonable action to take first because of the curves on that end already. But Bleymaier and the rest of the Boise State Athletic Department have their sights set much higher than that. "In an ideal world I would like to see it completely enclosed, and that would bring it be between 50,000 to 60,000 seat capacity," Bleymaier said. But many things must be done before that is possible. "Were trying to balance the budget the best we can. Get the basketball locker rooms built, and do repairs to develop East Junior High so that we can move our track over there and add on to Bronco Stadium." Bringing the total capacity of Bronco Stadium to more than 50,000 seats would greatly improve the amount of revenue Boise State could bring in per game and would bring Bronco Stadium one step closer to being one of the nation's elite programs. As of right now Bronco Stadium holds a little more than 32,000, which is still well below the average of the top 25 schools in the nation. The average top 25 stadiums hold 66,000 spectators, giving them a monster advantage over Boise State on the revenue side of things. "On the expense side it's a good time to build if we had the money," Bleymaier said. "We could get it done a little cheaper in today's market, but the trick is to have the revenue to build."

So from the sound of it this renovation isn't to far off. According to the article the first thing that needs to happen is the track needs to be moved. No dates have been set as of yet but he preliminary plans are located in the ANHF! See the Drawing below. It is a rough idea of how I remember it. One thing that may strike interest is the softball fields! Boise state completed a new facility after this image was completed. so maybe we now have room for a baseball facility?
Once removed the stadium will than be ready for it face lift!
